Created through a close collaboration between Wonder For All Arts Foundation and the students and teachers of Crockett Middle School, this pair of connected murals transformed the school’s media center into a celebration of the stories students explore throughout sixth, seventh, and eighth grade.

Crockett’s teachers helped guide the content by sharing the school’s reading list and identifying meaningful details from Hatchet, The Breadwinner, The Lightning Thief, The Giver, The Watsons Go to Birmingham, The House on Mango Street, The Diary of Anne Frank, and The Outsiders. Students added their own perspectives through ideas and original artwork, helping shape how the books and their themes would come together across the walls.

Several students’ drawings and examples of their actual handwriting were incorporated directly into the finished murals. Their contributions were not simply inspiration for the project. They became a permanent part of the artwork and the space they experience every day.

Together, the two murals span more than 50 feet and stand 5 feet 6 inches tall. Flowing across opposing walls, they form one continuous visual journey filled with characters, symbols, and moments chosen in collaboration with the Crockett community.

This project reflects Wonder For All’s mission to create community-centered murals shaped by the people who experience them, transforming everyday spaces into places of wonder, pride, belonging, and inspiration.
